Six

Reflecting on my family dynamics, I can't help but draw a parallel between my mother's role and that of Henry VIII's six wives. Despite being my father's first wife, she has assumed the position of caretaker after he's cycled through five others, including myself, his sister, 2 girlfriends and his brother’s wife ALL whom he no longer speaks to. It's a peculiar comparison, but the similarities are striking; much like Henry's six wives, my mother has endured decades of mistreatment and disrespect. Yet, she persists in her role, faithfully attending to my father's needs, even after nearly forty years of enduring his  asshole behaviors. I find myself questioning why she continues to endure his cruelty, pondering the depths of her resilience and the complexities of their relationship.
