Done

Today at therapy, things took a weird turn. Some people started expressing concern that their SSDI benefits might disappear under Trump. Instead of steering the conversation back to therapy, the therapist jumped in, shutting down their worries and even praising Trump, speculating about what he will and won’t do. I tried to stay quiet, scribbling on my handout sheets, but eventually, I couldn’t take it anymore and said, "I don’t think we should be talking about this." She fumbled, trying to justify her comments, saying she knew certain things—like the benefits—would change. I responded, "You can’t say that either, because no one really knows what anyone will do—ever in life."

This wasn’t the first red flag. A few weeks ago, she had her mail-in ballot sitting on the table. When I casually asked who she was voting for, she responded, "You won’t call me a racist if I tell you," which made it pretty clear she was voting for Trump.

I’m not someone who is overly political, but I do vote, and I can’t wrap my head around how someone with Trump’s record—recent convictions, multiple bankruptcies, and a chaotic track record—can even be allowed to run. And after everything the world went through during his last term? It’s mind-boggling. While I usually don’t judge people for their voting choices, I have to draw the line when it comes to a therapist openly endorsing someone who blatantly disregards the rights of women and my community—rights that directly affect me.

By the end of the session, I made it clear I wouldn’t be coming back. She should not be talking about this stuff.
