SDMT

Working backstage at the theater, I faced an unexpected and unjust accusation of sexual harassment from a girl, which was particularly baffling given that I am gay. Having climbed the ranks from a follow spot operator to the assistant stage manager in just three shows, I was blindsided with a verbal warning two days before the show closed. To my dismay, I wasn't rehired without any explanation, despite reaching out through emails, texts, and calls for several months. After writing to the new artistic director, I received a scathing email in return. While I respect the importance of addressing harassment issues, it was clear there was no validity to this claim. Ironically, I volunteered for the remaining shows of the season last year, interacting with everyone as if nothing was amiss. My mom, who works as the volunteer coordinator for the organization, stepped in on my behalf when I was confronted with a scathing letter. After a meeting she had with them, they eventually reached out to me. However, by that point, I felt no desire to provide further explanations. Unfortunately, it became clear that the organization was poorly managed, a sentiment echoed by other members who reassured me not to worry, highlighting my outstanding performance. However, the reality did not match those assurances. On a positive note, my mom supported me and decided to resign from her role. The downside is that I had turned down several other opportunities before this all happened.
