Conflicted

After whipping up dinner for my mom tonight, she casually shared two stories about my nephew that left me feeling... well, let’s just say, conflicted. The first one was about how he told his mom she didn’t pack his lunch right because she forgot to put his snack in the side pocket — but don’t worry, he figured it out. Apparently, this wasn’t the first time she’d done it wrong, and he made sure to remind her of that little detail. The second story involved my mom talking to him about how hanging out with him made her feel better since she’d been under the weather. She mentioned she was thinking of coming over tomorrow. His response? A very matter-of-fact, “No, it’s not a good day, because we both have afterschool activities.” My mom laughed, finding his blunt little remarks funny, but for some reason, I couldn't help but feel like they were just... bad manners. I mean, he's six! He doesn’t even realize how his words can sting. But of course, I say nothing because... well, what’s the point? My response would probably just spark an argument, and that’s really not the vibe I’m going for tonight.
