I woke up at 4:30 a.m., packed a bag, and jumped in the car, heading to Arizona to visit Melissa and her family. Before I left, I wrote my mom this note:

Good morning, Mom,

I just wanted to let you know that I decided to go visit Melissa. With everything going on, I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed, and last night, trying to share it only seemed to add to the stress. I didn’t want to worry you or make things harder for myself, so I waited until this morning to tell you.

I’ll call later to check in. Thank you for always being there for me, especially in moments like this.
