Monsters

I just binge-watched the new Netflix series Monster: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story, and even though I don’t remember much from when it originally happened, I found it absolutely fascinating. It’s wild how, even after watching, I’m still unsure about what’s true or not—seems like the jury struggled with that too! What really hit me, though, was how the series brought up the topic of boy molestation, something that rarely gets talked about. The fact that they included that angle was so important because it sheds light on the trauma they endured, which is often overlooked in cases like these. Watching it made me realize how flawed and complicated our court system can be. It’s crazy to think the O.J. Simpson trial was happening at the same time, and he got off, while these two brothers faced such a different outcome. It really makes me question how much of what we see in court is truly about justice.
