My Dad

Some people are just jerks. They either lack the self-awareness to do anything about it, or they enjoy being a jerk and don’t want to change. Jerks will find people who like them, or in my dad's case now, feel sorry for him as he's dying. I'm still not sure why my mom has stepped up to care for my father, as he has treated her like dirt for a million years. What does she get out of it? Is she doing it to feel good about herself? Is she doing it to "help" my sister who doesn't really care that much? Maybe his sparse incidents of kindness - enough to give others hope of change in order for them to stick around, as he has no one left. I hope she starts billing him for her time, since that's what she did for a living and has PLENTY of money.

It is not “my fault” he's a jerk - no one will be able to change it. However, I have cut him out of my life, as I am sure he feels he did to me after changing the locks on his door. I'm know he won’t be hurt by it, and we’ll be better off for it in the long run.

I cannot control the behavior and/or choices of others. Only my own.
