I'm kind of obsessed with the new Jay and Pamela show—like, if you're not watching, you seriously need to catch up. There's this moment that just gutted me: Pamela’s parents haven’t spoken to her or visited since she moved in with her boyfriend, just because he’s trans. And now they’re not even going to be at her wedding. It made me think about when I got married, and my ex’s parents refused to come. His brother showed up, and the wedding itself was beautiful and full of love, but damn... I don’t think I ever let myself fully sit with how heartbreaking that must’ve been for him. I mean, I knew it was sad—but seeing it reflected on screen, it just made the weight of it all land differently. How wrong it is, truly, for someone’s love and joy to be treated like a shameful secret instead of something to be celebrated.
