Trees
I had heard friendships compared to seasons before—the whole idea that some people are only meant to be in your life for a short time—but I’d never heard the tree metaphor until recently. So, naturally, I looked it up, and honestly? I like this one better.
Friendships are a lot like trees—some are leaves, some are branches, and a rare few are roots.
Leaf friends are beautiful while they last, but they’re seasonal. They show up when the sun is shining, flutter around when the breeze is good, but the moment a storm hits, they detach and drift away. No warning, no goodbye—just gone.
Branch friends are stronger, more reliable. They hold you up, support you, make you believe they’ll always be there. But put too much weight on them, and some will snap. Sometimes, you don’t even realize they were never as strong as you thought until you’re already falling.
Then there are the root friends. The ones who are buried deep, unseen but essential. They don’t waver with the seasons, don’t snap under pressure. They keep you grounded, nourish you, and stay—through droughts, through storms, through everything. They’re rare, but they’re the ones who truly keep you standing.
