Velour
I was incredibly excited for today, knowing I was attending the La Jolla Playhouse breakfast for the new show "Velour: A Drag Spectacular." In my mind, I imagined somehow getting a job backstage, meeting Sasha, and having everything fall into place. When I arrived, I accidentally walked into the read-through, and everyone turned to stare at me. I awkwardly asked where I was supposed to be going and then went outside to take pictures of the set build. As luck would have it, the cast and director came out for a break, and at 9:30 am, I actually got to shake hands and meet Sasha and Moises, the director, before an intern grabbed me to start brewing coffee. I set up the breakfast before the company arrived, and to my surprise, we were all introduced and everyone applauded. One of the company members even recognized me from SDMT, and I simply said I worked there. Later in the afternoon, while at my desk, two other employees came over to ask me about SDMT, likely having heard from the first person. Theater is such a small community, and if something bad happens because of the SDMT staff, I worry I might lose my opportunity here. I love La Jolla, and I didn't do anything wrong to begin with. Enough said. I'm a little stressed.
